 Remembering Belmar resident Cynthia Sussman, 73, killed by NJ Transit train On November 29, 2021 BELMAR, NJ - A 73-year-old Jersey Shore woman was fatally struck by an NJ transit train over the weekend, officials said. Belmar resident Cynthia E. Sussman was struck and fatally injured by a North Jersey Coast Line train around 9:19 a.m. on Sunday near the Church Street crossing in Spring Lake, NJ Transit spokesman Jim Smith told Patch. Around 25 customers and crew were on board at the time of the incident. There were no additional injuries reported. The train initially departed from Long Branch at 8:46 a.m. and was set to arrive at Bay Head at 9:31 a.m., Smith said. New Jersey Transit Police are leading the ongoing investigation.

James Kessock, 34, of Barnegat, was found on the tracks near First Avenue at 9:55 p.m., an NJ Transit spokesperson said. Officials do not yet know which train hit the victim. Rail service along the North Jersey Coast Line route was suspended between Long Branch and Bay Head after the man was struck, according to NJ Transit. Kessock was the third victim to die after being struck by a train in Monmouth County in one week. Early Saturday morning, a boy was killed by a train close to the Red Bank station, near where Drs. James Parker Boulevard merges into East Bergen Place, according to NJ Transit. His identity has not been released. GLEN ROCK, NJ — Service on the Main-Bergen County line has resumed on Thursday after a pedestrian was struck by a train. The current medical condition of that man is unknown, New Jersey Transit Police said. NJ Transit officials updated residents at 10 a.m. that line service was running on time, or close to it, in both directions. Glen Rock police were called to the scene just after 8 a.m. on Thursday to assist NJ Transit Police in responding to the pedestrian, who was provided medical assistance by the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. After receiving on-scene treatment, the person was transported from the Main Line Station to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson.  NJ Transit Train #1208, which was bound for Hoboken, remained stopped on the scene during the investigation, and Main Line rail service was temporarily suspended in both directions.    Juvenile Fatally Struck by NJ Transit Train in Red Bank NJ Transit Police are leading the investigation into a deadly train strike that killed a juvenile in Monmouth County Saturday morning.  According to NJ Transit officials, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a train consisting of two engines and no passenger cars traveling on the North Jersey Coast Line from the Meadows Maintenance Complex (MMC) to Long Branch. NJ Transit officials said the locomotive struck and fatally injured a male juvenile pedestrian in the vicinity of West Bergen Place near Red Bank station. Officials say there were no customers on board the train and no injuries reported to the crew. As of 3:58 a.m., NJ Transit officials said  North Jersey Coast Line rail service is suspended in both directions between Long Branch and Red Bank. Substitute bus service is being provided according to NJ Transit.

I thought this was a sad story. How can NJ Transit/Coach USA attorneys, detectives, and bus companies sleep at night? You can hear from this woman's story that what happened to her son was not an accident. It sounds like it was an attentional death, the driver needs his life taken in a horrific way like her son. Also, I gather from this mother's story; it sounds like a lot of racism plays a role. The woman did not have time to grieve for her son because she is fighting a corrupted system. I like to say to this mother, keep on fighting, and do not give up because justice will prevail. I hope someone can help this mother with helping her get justice for her son. This story breaks my heart. I think a documentary on Naomi's son's story and the corruption is a good idea to shine the light on this atrocious behavior of all the parties who are a part of her son's death.
