At around 9 p.m., the Main Line train No. 1129, which departed Hoboken at 8:46 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Suffern at 10:01 p.m., struck and fatally injured a male pedestrian at the east end of the Bergen Tunnel on the Jersey City-Hoboken border, NJ Transit Spokesman Jim Smith told Patch. No injuries were reported to the 41 customers or crew on board at the time, Smith said.

The pedestrian was found on the side of Route 88 (Main Street) after being hit shortly before 9:45 p.m., the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday. He was brought to a local hospital, where he died. His identity was not released pending family notification. The driver didn’t stop but was later found operating the bus in Howell. “The operator of the bus has been cooperative,” the prosecutor’s office said, adding that the incident remains under investigation.
