Man struck and killed by NJ Transit train in Montclair is identified

A 53-year-old man was fatally struck by an early-morning NJ Transit train on the Montclair-Boonton Line on Monday.
Stephen Korbel of Montclair was hit by the train at 5:20 a.m. just west of Watchung Avenue in Montclair, NJ Transit officials said. The train was carrying 30 passengers and crew members, said Lisa Torbic, a spokeswoman for NJ Transit.
The train had been headed toward New York Penn Station, but the passengers were moved to an NJ Transit bus.
It was not known why Korbel was on the tracks. NJ Transit police are investigating.
This is the same spot another Montclair resident, Joan Juenling, was killed by a train in November.
Delays on the Montclair-Booton Line reached 60 minutes before returning to normal around 11:15 a.m. A number of trains on the line were delayed or canceled, and NJ Transit cross-honored rail tickets on its buses.
