MADISON, NJ — A New Jersey Transit train fatally struck a man Monday morning near Madison. No other injuries were reported, but the Morris and Essex Line is subject to 45-minute delays between Morristown and Summit, an NJ Transit spokesperson told Patch at about noon Monday.

But NJ Transit tweeted that, as of 12:30 p.m., the line was operating on or close to schedule in both directions.

The incident occurred at about 8:45 a.m. Monday around the NJ Route 124 bridge. The pedestrian sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at Morristown Medical Center. NJ Transit did not identify them.

The train departed from New York Penn Station at 7:49 a.m. and was scheduled to reach Dover at 9:17 a.m. Thirty-five customers and crew occupied the train.

Rail tickets and passes will get cross-honored by NJ Transit and private carrier bus.
