UNION COUNTY, NJ — *Update as of 12:38 p.m.: train service has resumed in both directions between Plainfield and Dunellen following an earlier pedestrian fatality near Plainfield.
After a pedestrian was hit by a train Thursday morning, the Raritan Valley Line announced that rail service has been suspended.
The Raritan Valley Line is suspended in both directions between Plainfield and Dunellen, according to NJ Transit. The pedestrian was hit near Plainfield, according to a Tweet posted at 9:20 a.m.
*Update: NJ Transit spokesperson Jim Smith told Patch that at about 8:54 a.m., Raritan Valley Line train 5413, which left Newark Penn Station at 7:59 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Raritan at 9:08 a.m., struck and killed a man near the Grant Avenue bridge in Plainfield.
Smith said there were no injuries reported to the 20 customers or crew on board. New Jersey Transit police are on scene leading the investigation, according to Smith.
NJ Transit rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by NJ Transit bus, according to the Raritan Valley Line.
