Another New Jersey resident was killed by an NJ Transit train last night, which marks the 27th train fatality of the year.
Last week News 12 New Jersey's Walt Kane took a look at the alarming fatality rate. Now, Kane in Your Corner is taking a look at what challenges officials face to make the system safer.
Transit officials are looking at improving the gates at railroad crossings. Kane in Your Corner examined video from Spring Lake, which found that there are miles of track that people can simply cross on foot. The Federal Railroad Administration says that's the real problem.

The committee that's looking into rail safety has about seven more weeks to come up with recommendations.
